No. 130 Antique Dresser and Mirror in Yellow

If I had to pick one type of furniture to refinish for the rest of time, it would be these 1930-1940's dressers.  I love them!  They are all unique but they have the best details and finish up so pretty!

Here is where this one started...

I'm going to say, I'm not a yellow person.  It's just not a color I naturally gravitate towards.

But, sometimes I see a yellow piece of furniture, and it's just so perfect.

So I went out of my box on this one, and went yellow.  I'm so glad I did!

This was painted in homemade chalk paint a lovely buttery yellow called Beacon Yellow - it's literally the color of a stick of butter.

Funny, it was thundering when I took these!  I was running around like a crazy woman trying to get this all set up for photos.  About 30 seconds after I got it back into the basement, it was pouring.  This is also why the mirror is fogged, the humidity has been so high lately!

After distressing all the lovely raised details and those turned legs, I used a combo of white wax and clear wax to seal it up.

The white wax didn't settle in the grooves as much as I thought it would, it gave it a very subtle white washed look.

(Excuse the couple of rain drops!)

The top I refinished a bit lighter than normal, I think this medium wood tone goes better with the yellow.  This was stained in Early American by Minwax and sealed with three coats of High Performance Poly.

The original hardware stayed, it was too good not to keep, and the dark color grounded the whole thing a bit I think.

A bright pop of color inside the drawers.

And so I leave you with this sunny yellow dresser...happy summer!!

Blessings,
Jenni
