No. 113 Black Antique Step-Back Dresser

Well, it's been a while.  Sorry about that, lots of projects, not so much time.  But today is a good one.  After some custom projects, and a break, I feel ready to be creative!

Here's where she started...
Blah, brown.  But seriously the drawers on this pull incredibly smooth.  That's amazing to me, because this is an old piece.

I painted this one with my new go-to black, General Finishes Lamp Black.  Love the finish, and the adhesion is really good...like it doesn't even wash off your hands good.

The drawer fronts were sanded down, they are mahogany so they stayed pretty dark, but the wood grain really brought these back to life.

I've been drawn to hand painted pieces for a while.  Miss Mustard Seed has some great ones, so does Shades of Blue Interiors.  So for the first project of the year, I broke out the #2 filbert and did some painting.

The darkness of the wood keeps it pretty subtle, but I like that.

The whole piece was distressed, just here and there, nothing crazy.  And I finished it all off with a coat of MMS Hemp Oil.

I just painted the existing knobs the same black as the rest of the piece.

This piece is available in the Roots & Wings Etsy Shop
Blessings for a great start to the New Year!

  1. Beautiful. The black brings out the grain pattern in the burl and your handpainting is the perfect amount to just make it more unique. Love it.
