No. 100 White Antique Dresser with Mirror

This piece came from an estate sale.  It was one I just happened to walk into the last day of it when everything was 1/2 off.  This pretty lady was sitting there in all her wood glory, and she came home with me!

Here's the before:
In nice shape, but very brown.  The details just didn't pop.

I decided to go classic white on this, so versatile. This is my favorite white mixed into homemade chalk paint (color matched to Valspar's Woodlawn Bedroom White).  Distressed details, and waxed with Fiddes and Sons clear wax.
The top has a really pretty 4 piece book-page veneer.  It refinished beautifully, and kept a little patina on the edges still. This is General Finishes Gel Stain in Antique Walnut.  Topped off with 2 coats of Minwax Poly-Acrylic in satin.

I kept the original hardware, because it was perfect.  Just the right amount of brass and antiquing.  Here's a crooked close-up.
And guess what, the drawers are in great smooth running shape!  Rejoice!  I didn't have to sand or fix them AT ALL!  I love good craftsmanship, and good ownership.

The mirror is really in nice shape, with just a few spots from age. Loving the fall colors...going to be real sad to lose all those leaves though.

This piece is available in the shop Roots & Wings Etsy Shop

On another note...I hope to do some bios soon, but a couple of friends have joined me in the shop and they are adding some great pieces!! Check them out!

Blessings!!

  1. Gorgeous transformation! I love the two toned look. It always amazes me what a little bit of white paint can do to transform a piece of furniture!

  2. Very, very nice job. Well, first of all, you walked in and found her for half price. Then you transformed her. The white is a lovely choice, and the walnut stain gives a beautiful contrast.
