No. 81 Navy Blue Antique Secretary Desk

And we're back...I've been working hard trying to catch up after a week off, so I have some fun pieces to share with you, first up, this secretary:

Before:
I saw this secretary at my favorite furniture store a while back and passed it up.  But when I went back for more shopping later it was still there, and just called my name.  So I brought it home.  It was in rough shape as you can see.  The middle drawer isn't missing (not sure why it's not in the pic), it just needed a new drawer bottom.  The finish was old but neat - perhaps old milk paint.

Well, here it is now...

I've been really wanting to paint something navy blue.  This was the perfect candidate.  I think it gives it a regal feel.
I tipped the organizer edges in Rubb n' Buff Antique Gold, for just a bit of glam and to match these great brass knobs.  I added burlap to the backing for some neutral texture.
Unlike most secretary desks I've seen, this one gives quite a bit of storage with three generous drawers.  And one little tiny one - how cute is that one!

The front flap to the desk was missing, and I just thought it should stay that way to see the cool interior of the desk.

I distressed this one a little more than normal, I wanted the great texture to show through, yet at the same time the finish is smooth to the touch.  You can tell this is an old desk, I just wanted it to still look that way.

Oh, and look at those wooden casters on those feet.  Love those.
The back had this awesome sticker, telling you how to take care of a Larkin Co. desk.  The backing needed to be replaced, but I had to save this cool piece.  Old labels make me really happy.

Happy Friday!
Blessings,
Jenni
