Greetings from Siberia!
It is so freaking cold in this place called Pittsburgh. I'm thinking about decorating for spring today in my house, praying the whole time spring would come sooner rather than later!!
Moving on.
Today's project is a round dining room table and chairs. I warned you last week I would paint the town navy blue if I could, here's a start.
Friends were cleaning out and no longer had space for this table, sometimes I pass on tables, they seem like a lot of work and I'm not always up to it. But I'm so glad I took this table.
Here is a kind of before - I got started before I remembered to take a picture. This was on a day it was warm enough to sand outside without my fingers falling off!
I was amazed by the grain when I started sanding it down, it was beautiful! Hiding under brown.
Look at what it looks like now! I've been trying a new stain color - a little lighter than usual and I really like it. This is Minwax English Chestnut. Sealed with General Finishes High Performance Poly in flat finish. I think the flat finish really leans more towards satin than flat, so it's okay on a table top.
The base of the table got two coats of Behr's Starless Night (awesome color!) mixed up with Webster's Chalk Paint Powder. I received a free sample of the stuff and was pleasantly surprised, it mixed up really well, and didn't leave any chalk bits in my dark paint color. This was finished with a coat of Paste Wax.
This table had the brass bands around the legs, and I thought they were fine brass, but so much better COPPER! I applied Rub n' Buff in Autumn Gold (more copper color than gold I think). And look at that lovely little detail.
Now on to the chairs...
I bought two sets of these cafe chairs last summer as filler chairs around our dining room table. But my husband thought they were too small for the table, and just wasn't crazy about them. He doesn't have too many strong opinions about decorating in the house, so when he does, I try to listen. Anyway, I thought they would look great with this table...what do you think?
These got two coats of the same navy blue, and the seats were reupholstered with this awesome fabric (Linea by Nate Berkus). This is the third project I've used this fabric on, and I love it.
Here it is all pulled together...
This set available for sale in the Roots & Wings Etsy Shop!
Hope you are warmer than I am...
Jenni
