This spring I received and email from a lady who said she had just moved into a new house and there was an old desk in the basement left by the previous owner. She was wondering if I was interested, so I made her an offer and went to take a look.
This piece had been in the basement for years, and was a little worse for the wear, but nothing a little loving wouldn't fix!
Apparently the previous owner of the house was a pastor, when he retired, he got to take his desk with him. Hence the name "Pastor's Desk".
The top had a layer of veneer that was practically taking itself off, so I removed that all the way to find beautiful wood underneath.
A couple of coats of Minwax Dark Walnut, and three coats of General Finishes High Performance Poly in flat finish.
The base of the desk is in homemade chalk paint, mixed with Behr's Starless Night, it's a lovely shade of navy blue. Distressed edges and a little sealing with MMS Hemp Oil.
I added cup pulls to modernize this piece a little bit, and when you open the drawer inside...
There is a fabulous piece of wood that lifts up, for storage underneath and the original glass ink well. I couldn't figure out that someone would actually sit and write on the drawer top, but however they used to do it, it's a great surprise inside the drawer.
All four sides are finished, so this could easily float in a room, or I just think this would be the most fabulous kitchen island!!
This desk is for sale in the Etsy shop!
Blessings,
Jenni
